What Happens During a Gear Swap at Our Shop

A gear swap (also called a ring & pinion swap) involves changing the gears inside your rig's differentials to a new ratio — commonly done when adding larger tires, improving towing power, or optimizing for rock crawling or overlanding.

01

Planning

We sit down with you to choose the best gear ratio for your setup, tire size, and intended use.

02

Disassembly

The rig goes on the lift. We drain the differential fluid and carefully open the axle housings without removing the driveline.

03

Gear & Seal Replacement

  • Old ring and pinion gears are removed.
  • New high-quality gears are installed.
  • All seals (pinion seal, axle seals, etc.) are replaced to prevent leaks.
  • Bearings are inspected and replaced if needed.
04

Precise Setup

We set proper backlash, pinion depth, and contact pattern using specialized tools. This step is critical for quiet operation and longevity.

05

Reassembly & Fluid

Everything is reassembled with fresh gear oil and additives.

06

Testing & Break-In

We perform a thorough road test and provide you with detailed break-in instructions.

We specialize in clean, professional gear swaps for trail rigs, rock crawlers, and overlanders.
